Annabel's House of Books

Noli domo egredi, nisi librum habes – Never leave home without a book.

It’s Mostly Bookbrains III

Abingdon’s Literary Quiznight for charity,

returns for a third outing on

Quiz starts at 7.30pm

Faringdon Rd, Abingdon, OX13 6LN

Entry £5 in advance, £6 on the door.

The quizmaster is me once again, assisted by Mark and staff from our town’s wonderful independent bookshop Mostly Books.

This year we will be raising money for two local charities – SeeSaw which supplies grief support for the young in Oxfordshire, and Abingdon Alzheimer’s Club which provides daycare for dementia sufferers at Abingdon Community Hospital.

There will be questions, there will be prizes, there will be a cash bar (from 7pm). There will be a magnificent trophy and the accolade of being crowned ‘Mostly Bookbrains of the Year’ for the winning team.

There will also be the return of the infamous bookswap table – bring along a book you’d like to share and recommend (or one you couldn’t stand and can’t wait to see the back of!) and grab something different.

As before, there will be no shortage of bean-burnishing and brain-straining, but it should be a great deal of fun. Come as a team – but if you don’t have a team, don’t worry – teams will be formed on the night.

So – think you know your Lee Child from your Lionel Shriver? Spot a Penguin Classic from a celebrity biography? Why not pit your literary wits against others to compete for the team prize of Mostly Bookbrains of the Year?

  1. Looking forward to this! Well, I’m still trying to get the evening off work, but I’m sure I’ll manage…

Are you within reach of Abingdon (nr Oxford) then Yvann? It’d be lovely if you are able to come.

      • I am in East London which is not really within reach of either, but I’m visiting friends in Abingdon the preceding weekend. If I can change the weekend of the visit, we will all be there!

If you manage to arrange things, could I ask you to book/reserve in advance through Mostly Books if you possibly can (helps with numbers and will save you £1 pp on the night!)

  5. Ooh, how often do you do these? My parents live in Abingdon and I’d pop along if I was in the country! I’ll let them know – they are bookworms too.

My lit quiz is an annual thing (I’d never be able to dream up enough questions for more regular ones!) Your parents and all their friends would be very welcome indeed. Details from Mostly Books – there’s a link on the right or in the post above.
